Description

This exemption was granted to permit the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment trading as Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service to recruit and appoint a female and/or a male Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, whichever is required to maintain the gender and cultural representation of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community, to the identified position(s) of member of the National Parks and Wildlife Advisory Council (NPWAC) on the basis that:

  • NPWAC is a statutory body created to provide independent advice to the Minister on a range of matters associated with the National Parks and Reserves Management Act 2002.
  • NPWAC is represented by 10 members of equal gender representation on Council who have the skills and knowledge across a diverse range of activities important to the management of national parks and reserves across Tasmania. The 10 members include one male and one female Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander member position.
  • For gender equity and cultural reasons it is believed to be important to have both sexes represented from the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community on the NPWAC.
