Application no: 19/05/077(a) amended

Date granted: 15/4/2021

Date of expiry: 24/06/2021

Date advertised in Tasmanian Government Gazette: 28/4/2021

Relevant exceptions under the Act: Sections 25, 26, 27(1)(d)

Description

This amended exemption was granted to permit the Archdiocese of Hobart to advertise, recruit and employ females only in the identified positions of Case Worker(s), Assessment Worker(s), Local Support Coordination Case Worker(s), Department of Social Services Local Support Training Coordinator(s), and Safe Choices Program Manager related to the Safe Choices program (the Program), on the basis that:

  • The program provides practical support, advice and referral services to people who are in violent relationships, including those who wish to leave those relationships; and
  • The program is an initiative of the Safe Homes, Safe Families, Tasmania’s Family Violence Action Plan 2015-2020; and
  • The majority of clients in the program are women who have been victims of family or sexual violence, and clients may feel safer to explore their issues with other women; and
  • In the majority of cases women escaping or living with family violence from male perpetrators do not feel comfortable seeing male workers and discussing intimate details of their relationship.
